Beauregard’s Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Cookies
Happy adoptaversary to my Beauregard! One year ago today this adorable pooch stole my heart. In celebration I decided to make him some special peanut butter and pumpkin dog cookies.
I saw his photo on Rescue Charlies Friends website and instantly fell in love. His name then was Blue Eyes. He looked sweet, spunky and intelligent. I knew I was going to be his dog mahm.
We filled out the application, but someone had filled one out before us, so they got to adopt him. A few weeks later, Blue Eyes went to his new home and got renamed Blueberry. I was sad, but hoped that he would have a wonderful life. Exactly one week later, Rescue Charlie’s Friends called us and said that he had been returned and asked if we would want him. An hour and a half later, we had a four month old (not potty trained) puppy and no supplies at the start of a lockdown.
He had a rough start to life. Beau was originally found behind a dumpster in Alabama and was eventually given to a rescue. From there he went into fosters and failed adoptions until he came to us. We were his seventh home in just the first four months of his life. He has found his forever home with us and is now part a family. For more information on Beau click here.
I developed these peanut butter and pumpkin dog cookies when we had only had him for a week. I really like to celebrate milestones in life because they are really important. This recipe uses dog-friendly ingredients and is a breeze to make. It only uses four ingredients, and you can use what ever cookie cutter shapes you would like. I used a custom cookie cutter in the shape of Beauregard’s face that I got for Valentines day from my partner. You can get your own custom dog cookie cutter from Bakers Street Cutters here. Remember to support small businesses.
Some tips when making cookies for dogs:
Peanut Butter: Always use natural peanut butter. Some peanut butter has artificial sugars that can be harmful to dogs. I like the Skippy Natural for making dog cookies or cakes.
Pumpkin: Pure pumpkin puree is great for digestion. Pumpkin puree is great for baking or to put in a Kong. Make sure to use PURE pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling. Pumpkin pie filling contains extra sugar and other additives. Last fall I purchased baking pumpkins, roasted them and pureed them myself. In months that fresh pumpkins are not available, I use a brand called One-Pie which is a Maine company.
Whole Wheat Flour: White flour (while used a large percentage of the time in baked goods) has no nutritional value whatsoever and is very processed. Not the best thing to feed your fur baby. Whole wheat flour contains vitamins and minerals, which makes it a better choice for treats.
This recipe for peanut butter and pumpkin dog cookies is dog-friendly, but always consult your vet before making any dietary changes. I am not a vet. I just love my dog. And other people’s dogs. And random dog videos. Basically anything dog related.

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Pure Pumpkin Puree
- ½ Cup Natural Peanut Butter
- 3 Eggs
- 3 to 3 ½ Cups Whole Wheat Flour
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350°.
- In a mixer bowl, using the paddle attachment, mix the pumpkin, peanut butter and eggs together until combined. Scrape the bowl and mix again until incorperated.
- Add in the 3 ¼ cups of the whole wheat flour and stir until combined. Touch the dough and see if it is sticky. If it is sticky, add in the additional ¼ cup of flour. Stir until all of the flour is incorperated. If your dough continues to be sticky, you may add an additional ¼ cup until it's no longer sticky.
- On a floured surface, roll the dough out until a ¼ inch thick. Cut the dough into your desired shape, and place on a parchment covered sheet pan. Bake until done (about 20 to 25 minutes). Please see notes for additional baking time information.
